HISTORY OF ASHCOMBE

Ashcombe has been a shooting ground for 30 years but since July 2022 it has been part of the SGC Group. The Sportsman Gun Centre are now the proud owners of Ashcombe. Since 2022 the ground has seen considerable investment in equipment and the ground now has a much wider variety of targets available for all levels of shooter.

Led by Don Brunt, the Ashcombe team brings together a wealth of shooting and customer service experience to create a friendly, approachable and knowledgeable environment in which to enjoy your shooting.  .

Don Brunt

As well as running several shooting grounds prior to Ashcombe Don has written and photographed for the shooting press on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 20 years, using his knowledge gained in a 40 year shooting career to produce articles on technical aspects and events in both Clay and Game shooting. He has also “ghost written” pieces on behalf of some of the sports biggest names and contributed to various books. 

He competes internationally to a high standard across several disciplines and currently holds a “Masterclass” or AAA classification in the USA where he does most of his competing. He has also shot game widely in the UK.  As well as running the Ashcombe Team he is the Course Setter and Head Coach though he also enjoys helping people begin their shooting career.

 

Simone Olver

The friendly face of Ashcombe, Simone runs front of house as well as administrating the day to day activities at the ground and booking people in for lessons, corporates and other events.  With a people focussed personality she has an uncanny ability to make everyone feel welcome at the ground. 

 

Justin Smith

A keen shooter with over 30 years’ experience across a variety of disciplines including clay pigeon, game, rough shooting, woodpigeon shooting, and also many different rifle shooting disciplines. Justin is an Association of Professional Shooting Instructors (APSI) qualified instructor. In recognition of his instructing and coaching experience he was elected to become a Member of APSI.  Justin has a passion for teaching people about the sport he loves, and this comes across in his coaching sessions. He enjoys coaching all levels of shooter from the complete novice to a more experienced shot. Popular with those doing Shooting Experiences and lessons he is also our Archery GB qualified instructor. When he is not working directly with clients he can be found working out on the ground or in the workshop helping to maintain the clay traps and clay ground equipment.

 

Paul Williams

Well known throughout the region Paul is an accomplished marksman, and very passionate about the sport. He has shot for his county many times and has been Devon County Champion 3 times. He is a Clay Pigeon Shooting Association accredited instructor and runs our "Shotgun Skills" Courses for new shooters. He enjoys both the Sporting and Trap disciplines, and is also an experienced game shot to a high standard.  He has worked within the fieldsports industry for many years and runs the gun line at a local estate during the winter. When he isn’t teaching or running shooting experience sessions he can be found helping out around the ground and he does a great job of maintaining Ashcombe’s green spaces.
